Crisis Pregnancy

My Options Helpline

If you are experiencing an unplanned or crisis pregnancy, ‘My Options’ is a new HSE helpline that can give you free and confidential counselling.
The helpline can provide you with information and support on all your options, including continued pregnancy supports and termination of pregnancy services.

Your Options

If you decide not to continue with your pregnancy, termination of pregnancy (TOP) services are available at the Rotunda in compliance with recently enacted legislation under one of three categories:
• Less than 12 weeks’ gestation
• Following the diagnosis of a likely fatal fetal abnormality
• In the setting of serious risk to maternal physical or mental health

If you are seeking termination of pregnancy before 12 weeks gestation, you must first contact the ‘MyOptions’ national helpline at 1800 828 010 or website at www.myoptions.ie and you will be directed to a GP in your locality for an initial assessment.

If you are less than 9 weeks’ gestation, you will be managed locally by your GP.
If you are between 9 and 12 weeks’ gestation, you will be treated in a Hospital.

If you have a GP referral letter, we will endeavour to provide termination of pregnancy services for you at the Rotunda. This referral will be made through your GP. You will need to have photo ID to access these services at the Rotunda.

For patients seeking termination of pregnancy in the second or third categories (fetal abnormality or maternal health risk), this can only be accessed following a thorough assessment and consultation with our specialist obstetricians at the Rotunda. Your GP, or another consultant at your local hospital, will be able to initiate access to these services at the Rotunda for you.

Important Dates

When we talk about gestational age, it is measured from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP).

9 weeks is 63 days from first day of your last menstrual period (LMP).

11 weeks is 77 days from the first day of your LMP.

12 weeks is 84 days from the first day of your LMP.

Your Options

If you decide to continue with your pregnancy, contact us as soon as possible.

We try to see women for a first antenatal visit, or booking visit, as early as possible in pregnancy. In keeping with best practice guidelines we aim to see women for their booking visit by 12-14 weeks’ gestation.

You can book your First Antenatal Visit by emailing us at [email protected]
