Determining the impact of the “ThromboCalc” venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk assessment on the incidence of postpartum VTE in the Rotunda Hospital, and derivation of a novel postpartum VTE risk prediction model.
What is it? |
We are conducting a research in blood clots (VTE) in patients who had their baby at The Rotunda Hospital between the years 2010 to 2016.
Why? |
Women are at the risk of developing Blood Clots (VTE) following the birth of their baby. In the Rotunda Hospital, an electronic risk assessment tool ThromboCalc was implemented in September 2014 to help identify women at high risk of blood clots. The purpose of this study is to determine the impact of ThromboCalc on the number of blood clots arising after pregnancies in the Rotunda Hospital.
In addition, we wish to develop a risk assessment tool for VTE in the postpartum period (up to 6 weeks postpartum).
When is it occurring? |
It is approved by the Rotunda Research Ethics Committee (REC-2023-022) and Health Research Consent Declaration Committee (HRCDC) (ID: 24-006-AF1). We are conducting the data extraction and analysis starting from January 2026.
How will the study be carried out? |
We are reviewing all the patients who delivered their baby at the Rotunda Hospital for the above years to see if they suffered from a blood clot during their admission or after discharge from hospital. This post is to inform you that details of your pregnancy may be included in the study. You do not need to take any action.
