Warmest congratulations to Liz and Dáithi on the birth of their daughter yesterday from all of here in The Rotunda. It was an exciting day for us also as Liz was the first person to use our new labouring pool!

Here’s what Liz had to say about her experience –

“It was really nice. It was a surprise. I didn’t know there was a labouring pool so it was nice surprise to go into the room. It really helped. It was nice to try something different and try new positions as well that wouldn’t have been an option otherwise. It really helped, get her into position, because it had taken so long – I guess to take the weight off and try a new position for labour. And all of sudden my waters broke in the pool and we were straight out and she was born. It was fantastic I have to say – Aidene the midwife was great – she was able to tell us exactly what positions to try in the pool. It was such a relief. At home, water was a big part of our plan, I was in the shower a lot and it’s such an amazing pain relief. Obviously you have nothing that deep that really takes the weight off like that at home. It wasn’t part of our plan, but it just fit so nicely in with it.”

The pool is available for any women who meet the criteria for water immersion in labour. If anyone wishes to use the pool you should discuss it with the midwife caring for you in labour.
