Sometimes following birth, it is helpful to talk through your experiences. You may have many unanswered questions. This might be if things haven’t gone the way you or your partner expected, or if you just want to reflect on your experience.
Birth Reflections is a listening service for women who have given birth in The Rotunda Hospital.
It is a confidential midwifery-led service that offers a one-off, one to one appointment to listen to any concerns you may have, to explore any issues and provide an opportunity to reflect on your birth experience.
The Birth Reflections service is a confidential midwifery-led service that offers a one-off, one to one appointment to listen to any concerns you may have, to explore any issues and provide an opportunity to reflect on your birth experience. It is a chance to spend time talking this through with a dedicated midwife.
Although women are encouraged to talk through their experiences while they are still in hospital, many find they need to have some time at home adjusting to family life before being able to reflect upon their experience. It is important to recognise how you are feeling. Don’t just hope that your feelings will go away or that how you are feeling is not valid or important. We want to help you feel in control and empowered after such a life-changing event.
A birth reflection experience can help considerably to obtain a greater understanding of events surrounding the birth, why a possible intervention was necessary, and the possible implications for future births. Reviewing your birth notes can also help provide answers, fill in gaps, and give the hospital’s account of your birth.
The service allows you and your partner to explore your birth experience, to share feelings and reflect on your birth and gives you the opportunity to clarify events. It encourages you to express how the experience has met your expectations while also reassuring and helping you to plan any future births that you may be considering.
Birth Reflections is not a complaints or counselling service.
We use the feedback to facilitate positive changes in maternity care by identifying areas we can improve upon and by recognising what we are doing well. Please talk to your midwife if you would like to know more. You can also refer yourself into the service by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or phoning 0873710313.
We welcome your call or contact.
